A KPI - Key Performance Indicator - is how elyvate measures whether a work package is on track. It turns vague progress into a number you can act on. Instead of asking "how are things going?", your team asks "where does the KPI stand, and what does it tell us?"
Every KPI in elyvate has a clear target and a traffic light status. That makes the difference between a metric that sits in a spreadsheet and one that actually drives decisions.
KPIs live inside work packages
Each work package in elyvate contains a set of KPIs relevant to that area - whether that's quality, delivery, capacity, or cost. The KPIs are visible directly on the One Pager and in full detail in the KPI Collection view.

Progress is always visible - for the team on the ground and for anyone overseeing the project.
KPIs and measures - how they connect
KPIs and measures work together. A KPI tells you where you stand. A measure is what you do about it.
When a KPI turns red - meaning it is deviated with no counter measure in place - that is the signal to create a measure. The measure captures the action being taken, who is responsible, and by when. As measures are completed, the KPI should move. That connection between metric and action is what makes execution in elyvate traceable and accountable.
Without this link, teams often track numbers without acting on them - or act without knowing whether it made a difference. In elyvate, both are always visible in the same place.
Targets and status
Every KPI in elyvate carries:
A target - the value you are aiming for
A traffic light status - On Track (green), Deviated - Counter Measure Defined (yellow), or Deviated - No Counter Measure Defined (red), set manually by the team
The status makes the situation visible at a glance. If a Top KPI is set to red, the work package status automatically switches to Deviated - No Counter Measure Defined (see Project and Work Package status options).
Why this matters
A project without clear KPIs is hard to steer. You can track tasks and complete measures, but without knowing whether the numbers are moving in the right direction, it is difficult to tell if the work is having an impact.
In elyvate, KPIs are the connective tissue between execution and outcome - between what the team is doing and whether it is working. Getting them right at the start of a project makes everything else easier: escalation, reporting, steering committee updates, and day-to-day prioritization.
