Work Packages - Execution broken down into manageable pieces.
Every project in elyvate is structured around work packages. They are the core building blocks that connect strategy to daily execution - giving your team clear ownership, measurable progress, and full visibility at every level.
Who can create a Work Package?
Not all roles in elyvate have permission to create work packages. Only Project Leads and Consultants can create them. Work Package Leads and Contributors cannot create work packages. If you don't see the New button, check with your Project Lead or see Roles overview to confirm your access level.
What is a Work Package?
A work package is a stream of work focused on a specific area of your project. It groups targets, KPIs, and measures - and it's within those measures that responsibilities and timelines are defined and tracked.
There are two types of work packages in elyvate:
Public work packages are part of your official project structure and are used for direct collaboration with your client. Progress, updates, and ownership are shared and visible across all project stakeholders.
Internal work packages are used for internal coordination at a company level. You can add all members from your company, or invite specific individuals only. Unlike public work packages, internal work packages contain measures only - without KPIs, targets, or weekly progress tracking. Visibility is restricted to invited members only, even within the same company. An internal work package can be converted to public at any time.
How to create a Work Package
Open your project in elyvate and navigate to the Work Packages section on the project overview. Scroll down until you see the Work Packages section, then click New to open the creation form.
From there, you'll define:
Type: Public or Internal, depending on who is involved
Number: Use a whole number (1, 2, 3) for a main work package, or a decimal (1.1, 2.3) to represent a sub-work-package underneath it. The decimal is a numbering convention - the work package itself behaves like any other
Category: Choose from a wide range of predefined options such as Engineering, HR, Maintenance, or Production. If none apply, select Others
Name: Choose a clear, precise title so every team member knows what the package covers at a glance
Work Package Leader: Assign the person accountable for this package. Additional team members can be added afterwards
Details: Add concrete contents, planned activities, goals, or any context your team needs to get started
Once you've filled in all fields, click Create. Your work package is now live and appears in your project's work package overview.
Editing a Work Package
Need to make changes after creation? Click on the work package and open Details. On the Summary page you'll find all general information for this package. Click Edit to update the name, number, category, or description at any time.
Duplicating a Work Package
You can duplicate any work package at any time. The duplicate includes all measures and KPIs from the original - and duplicated measures will also appear on the Board. This is useful when a new work package follows a similar structure to an existing one.
To duplicate a work package, open your project and click on Project Details, then navigate to Settings. Under Work Package Settings, click Edit. A window opens showing all work packages in the project. Click the three dots next to the work package you want to duplicate and select Duplicate.
Archiving a Work Package
To archive a work package, follow the same steps - open your project, click on Project Details, then Settings, and under Work Package Settings click Edit. Click the three dots next to the work package you want to archive and select Archive.
Adding Team Members
To add additional members to a work package, navigate to the Members tab in the work package details section and click Add Member. For a full overview of available roles and their permissions, see Roles overview.
What's next?
Once your work package is created, the next step is to set it up for execution. Add targets and KPIs to define what success looks like, then create measures to assign ownership and track progress. Refer to the following articles to get started:

Create, track and manage measures
đĄ Best practice: Fill in the Details field from the start. The more context your team has on day one, the less time gets lost in alignment meetings later.
