Board: Moving cards between columns

Drag cards to update status or due date - what changes, who can move what, and what syncs downstream.

On the Board, you can update the status of a measure directly by dragging its card to a different column. This keeps your board current without having to open each measure individually.

How drag-and-drop works

Drag-and-drop works in both the Status view and the Calendar Week view - but what changes depends on the view you are in.

In the Status view, click and hold a measure card, drag it to the target column, and release. The status of the measure updates immediately and syncs back to the corresponding work package in real time - no manual save required. The change is reflected everywhere the measure appears across the project. Status changes via drag-and-drop are available to all roles with edit rights - Project Lead, Consultant, WP Lead, and Contributor.

In the Calendar Week view, dragging a card to a different column updates the due date of the measure to match the target calendar week. This makes it easy to reschedule measures directly on the board without opening each one individually.

Two things to know if your project uses the escalation flow: each due date change - including drags in the Calendar Week view - counts toward the measure's escalation limit, and once a measure is Escalated, only Work Package Leads, Project Leads and Consultants can move its card (see Escalation flow).

Moving measures between work packages

In addition to changing status, measures can also be moved between work packages directly on the board. Drag a card from one work package row to another and the measure is reassigned accordingly. This is useful when ownership or scope shifts during a project.

This action is available to Project Leads and Consultants only. Work Package Leads can move measures within their own work package rows but cannot reassign a measure to a different work package.

What changes downstream

When you move a card to a new column or a new work package row, the following updates automatically:

  • The measure status is updated in status view

  • The date is updated in calendar view

  • The change is saved to the work package

  • The Overview and work package One Pager reflect the new state

No additional steps are needed after moving a card.
